Please read these Terms carefully before using HALT. By creating an account or using our service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use HALT.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a legally binding agreement between you and HALT Technologies Ltd ("HALT", "we", "us", or "our") governing your use of the HALT mobile application, website (halt-app.com), and all related services (collectively, the "Service").

1. About HALT

2. Eligibility

To create an account and use HALT, you must meet all of the following requirements:

  • You must be at least 18 years of age. HALT is not available to anyone under 18.
  • You must be a resident of the United Kingdom at the time of registration.
  • You must have a valid UK bank account that is compatible with Open Banking.
  • You must have an active HALT subscription or be within a valid free trial period.
  • You must have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract.
  • You must not have been previously banned or suspended from HALT.

By creating an account, you confirm that you meet all of the above requirements. If you no longer meet these requirements, you must stop using the Service and notify us immediately.

3. Account Registration and Security

3.1 Creating an Account

Accounts are created on our website (halt-app.com). You must provide accurate, complete, and current information when registering. You must not use a false identity or impersonate another person when creating an account.

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your password confidential and not sharing it with anyone
  • Keeping your in-app PIN confidential
  • All activity that takes place under your account, whether or not you authorised it
  • Logging out of shared or public devices after use
  • Notifying us immediately at support@halt-app.com if you suspect unauthorised access to your account

We will never ask you for your password or PIN via email, phone, or any other channel. If you receive such a request, it is not from us.

3.3 One Account Per Person

Each person may hold only one HALT account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent a suspension, access a free trial more than once, or for any other reason is strictly prohibited.

3.4 Account Deletion

You may request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us at support@halt-app.com. We will process your request within 30 days. Your data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy following deletion.

4. Subscription, Pricing and Payments

4.1 Subscription Plans

Access to the HALT app requires an active subscription. The current subscription price is £5.99 per month (inclusive of any applicable VAT). Prices are displayed clearly at the point of purchase on our website.

4.2 Free Trial

New subscribers may be offered a free trial period (currently 14 days). During the free trial:

  • You will not be charged
  • You will have full access to all HALT features
  • You may cancel at any time before the trial ends without being charged
  • If you do not cancel, your subscription will automatically begin at the end of the trial and you will be charged the applicable monthly fee
  • The free trial is available to new subscribers only. Creating a new account to claim a second free trial is prohibited.

4.3 Billing and Renewal

Your subscription is billed monthly in advance. Your subscription will renew automatically each month via Apple App Store or Google Play Store, depending on which platform you subscribed through. Your subscription will continue and renew automatically unless you cancel it before the next renewal date.

4.4 Payment Processing

All payments are processed securely by Apple App Store or Google Play Store. HALT does not store, process, or have access to your card details or any payment instrument information. By subscribing, you also agree to Apple's or Google's terms of service as applicable.

4.5 Failed Payments

If a payment fails, we will attempt to collect payment again. If payment continues to fail, your subscription may be suspended or cancelled and access to the HALT app will be restricted until payment is resolved.

4.6 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time. To cancel:

  • Contact us at support@halt-app.com, or
  • Use the subscription management portal (where available)

Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You will retain access to HALT until that date. We do not offer refunds for partial months or unused portions of a subscription period.

4.7 Refunds

All payments are non-refundable except where required by law. If you believe you are entitled to a refund under UK consumer law (for example, under the Consumer Rights Act 2015), please contact us at support@halt-app.com and we will assess your request on a case-by-case basis.

4.8 Price Changes

We reserve the right to change our subscription price. We will give you at least 30 days' written notice of any price increase before it takes effect. If you do not wish to continue at the new price, you may cancel your subscription before the change takes effect. Continued use after the effective date of a price change constitutes your acceptance of the new price.

5. The HALT Service

5.1 What HALT Does

HALT provides the following features as part of the Service:

  • Read-only bank account connection via Open Banking
  • Transaction categorisation and display
  • User-defined spending rules by category (spend limit, visit frequency, session time)
  • 48-hour rule change lock — a mandatory waiting period before rule changes take effect
  • Discipline streak tracking — a daily streak that resets if rules are breached
  • Challenge mode — a commitment period of 90, 180 or 365 days
  • Weekly spending cap
  • Spending insights and comparisons

5.2 Rule Breach

A rule breach occurs when your bank transactions, as retrieved via Open Banking, show that you have exceeded a spending limit or visit frequency you set for a given category within the current month. A rule breach will reset your discipline streak to zero. HALT relies on transaction data provided by your bank via our Open Banking provider — we cannot guarantee this data is always complete, real-time, or error-free.

5.3 The 48-Hour Lock

When you request a change to a spending rule, a 48-hour waiting period begins before the change can take effect. This is a deliberate feature of the Service designed to support disciplined decision-making. You may cancel a pending change at any time during the 48-hour window. HALT is not liable for any spending decisions made during this period.

5.4 Service Availability

We aim to provide the HALT service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to:

  • Scheduled maintenance (we will endeavour to give advance notice)
  • Unplanned technical issues or outages
  • Third-party service disruptions (including our Open Banking provider, Stripe, or Supabase)
  • Circumstances beyond our reasonable control

We will not be liable for any loss or inconvenience caused by service unavailability, except where required by law.

5.5 Service Changes

We reserve the right to modify, update, or discontinue any feature of the Service at any time. Where changes are material, we will provide reasonable notice. We will not remove a core feature of the Service without giving you the opportunity to cancel your subscription first.

6. Open Banking

6.1 Connecting Your Bank

HALT uses Finexer Limited, an FCA-authorised Open Banking provider, to connect to your bank account. HALT Technologies Ltd acts as a registered agent of Finexer for the purpose of providing Account Information Services (AIS). By connecting your bank and using the open banking features of HALT, you also agree to be bound by the relevant sections of Finexer Limited's Terms and Conditions (sections 1 to 4, 6, 7 and 8), available at finexer.io/terms. HALT operates your open banking connection on the same terms as Finexer's Terms and Conditions in respect of those sections. By connecting your bank, you:

  • Authorise our Open Banking provider (on behalf of HALT) to access your bank account data on a strictly read-only basis
  • Confirm that you are the account holder or have permission to share this account data
  • Understand that HALT cannot and will not initiate payments, move funds, or make any changes to your bank account
  • Acknowledge that your bank connection may expire after a period of time and require renewal
  • Accept that transaction data may not always be complete, real-time, or free from errors

6.2 Revoking Bank Access

You can revoke Open Banking access at any time by disconnecting your bank within the HALT app or directly through your bank's own settings. Revoking access will prevent HALT from retrieving new transaction data and will limit the functionality of the app. It does not affect your subscription or account.

6.3 Data Accuracy

Transaction data is provided to HALT by our Open Banking provider from your bank. We display this data as received. We cannot guarantee its accuracy, completeness, or timeliness. You should not rely on HALT as your sole record of financial transactions. Always refer to your official bank statements for authoritative transaction information.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree to use HALT only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You must not:

  • Use the Service for any illegal, fraudulent, or unauthorised purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems, servers, databases, or other users' accounts
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract the source code of the HALT app or website
  • Copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works of any part of the Service without our written permission
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to access or interact with the Service
  • Transmit any virus, malware, or other harmful code through the Service
  • Use the Service in a way that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair our infrastructure
  • Share your account credentials with any other person
  • Create accounts for others without their knowledge and consent
  • Use the Service to harass, threaten, or harm any person
  • Attempt to circumvent any security or access control measures in the Service

We reserve the right to investigate suspected violations of this section and to suspend or terminate accounts found to be in breach.

8. Not Financial Advice

HALT is a personal discipline and habit-building tool. It is not a financial advisory service, investment platform, or regulated financial product.

  • Nothing in the HALT app or website constitutes financial advice, investment advice, tax advice, legal advice, or any other professional advice
  • Spending limits, rules, and insights shown in the app are set by you based on your own judgement
  • You should not rely on HALT as a substitute for independent professional financial guidance
  • Any financial decisions you make based on information displayed in the app are made entirely at your own risk
  • HALT Technologies Ltd is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for the provision of financial advice or investment services

9. Intellectual Property

9.1 Our Intellectual Property

All content, features, design, code, graphics, logos, trademarks, and functionality of the HALT app and website are owned by or licensed to HALT Technologies Ltd and are protected by UK and international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

9.2 Licence to Use

Subject to these Terms and your active subscription, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the HALT app for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. This licence does not include any right to:

  • Copy, reproduce, or distribute any part of the Service
  • Modify or create derivative works based on the Service
  • Use any trademarks, logos, or branding of HALT without our written permission
  • Sublicense or transfer your rights to any other person

This licence terminates automatically if your subscription ends or your account is terminated.

9.3 Your Content

You retain ownership of any content you provide to HALT (such as your spending rules and preferences). By using the Service, you grant us a limited licence to use this content solely to provide and improve the Service. We do not claim ownership of your personal data or financial information.

10. Privacy and Data Protection

Your use of HALT is subject to our Privacy Policy, which is available at halt-app.com/privacy. Our Privacy Policy explains in detail what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights under UK GDPR. By using HALT, you confirm that you have read and understood our Privacy Policy.

11. Limitation of Liability

11.1 Exclusions

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, HALT Technologies Ltd shall not be liable for:

  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss or damage
  • Loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business opportunities
  • Financial losses or decisions made based on information displayed in the app
  • Errors, inaccuracies, or delays in transaction data received from your bank via Open Banking
  • Loss arising from unauthorised access to your account where you have failed to keep your credentials secure
  • Loss arising from third-party service failures (including our Open Banking provider, Stripe, or Supabase)
  • Loss arising from service interruptions, maintenance, or downtime
  • Loss arising from your failure to cancel a pending rule change during the 48-hour window

11.2 Cap on Liability

Where HALT Technologies Ltd is found to be liable to you for any reason, our total liability for all claims arising from or related to your use of the Service shall not exceed the total subscription fees you have paid to us in the 3 calendar months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

11.3 Consumer Rights

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable UK law, including rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless HALT Technologies Ltd and its directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:

  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your use of the Service in a way that causes harm to a third party
  • Your breach of any applicable law or regulation
  • Any false or misleading information you provide to us

13. Suspension and Termination

13.1 Termination by You

You may close your account at any time by contacting us at support@halt-app.com. Closing your account will cancel your subscription at the end of the current billing period. Your data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

13.2 Suspension or Termination by HALT

We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate your account without prior notice if:

  • You breach any of these Terms
  • Your subscription payment fails and is not resolved within a reasonable period
  • You use the Service in a fraudulent, illegal, or abusive manner
  • We are required to do so by law or a regulatory authority
  • You provide false or misleading information during registration or use of the Service

Where we terminate your account due to a breach on your part, no refund will be issued for any remaining subscription period. Where we terminate your account for other reasons (for example, if we discontinue the Service), we will provide a pro-rata refund for any unused subscription period.

13.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination of your account:

  • Your access to the HALT app will be revoked immediately or at the end of the billing period (depending on the reason for termination)
  • Your licence to use the Service ends
  • Your data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy
  • Any provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination will do so, including sections on intellectual property, limitation of liability, indemnity, and governing law

14. Business Continuity

In the unlikely event that HALT Technologies Ltd ceases trading, becomes insolvent, or is acquired by another company:

  • We will provide you with as much notice as reasonably possible
  • Your subscription payments will cease from the date the Service is discontinued
  • We will provide instructions on how to export or delete your data
  • Your bank connection via Open Banking will be automatically severed and no further data will be retrieved
  • Your personal data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law

15. Third-Party Services

HALT integrates with and relies on a number of third-party services to operate. By using HALT, you acknowledge that:

  • Finexer Limited — provides Open Banking connectivity. FCA authorised (FRN 925695). HALT acts as a registered agent of Finexer. Your use of open banking features is subject to Finexer's Terms and Conditions (sections 1-4, 6, 7, 8), available at finexer.io/terms.

  • We will notify you by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect
  • We will display a notice within the HALT app
  • The updated date at the top of this page will be updated

If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and may cancel your subscription before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
